Asda Price Guarantee vs Tesco Brand Guarantee

Asda Groceries & Asda Price Guarantee versus Tesco Brand Guarantee

In recent times Sainsbury’s have dropped their price match scheme for comparing groceries. The “brand match” that Sainsbury’s offered was dropped in favour of reportedly directing funds into developing budget lines to be competitive alongside the likes of Aldi and Lidl. Asda Groceries and Tesco however continue to offer customers the chance to shop in a savvy way when buying branded goods. Tesco offer the brand guarantee, while Asda groceries offer the popular Asda Price Guarantee, also known as APG system.

Asda Groceries Price Guarantee versus Tesco Brand Guarantee – The Tesco option and how it works:

When approaching most Tesco car parks, you’ll likely see banners outside of the store advertising “your basket for less” or “never pay more”. Now, you need to be careful here because while price comparison systems really do give power back to the consumer, you can fall foul of the small print. For example, if one branded item is cheaper elsewhere, but another is more expensive, they cancel each other out. Therefore, to make the most of these systems, you really need to plan your shop to compare against only one other supermarket. Also, make sure all items are cheaper or the same at the other store – otherwise it undoes your savings.

You can use mysupermarket.co.uk to help plan your comparisons, just keep in mind that their prices can occasionally be out of date. This is particularly important when comparing to Morrison’s, as they collect their price information for comparison systems by hand mid-week. This is different to most other supermarkets.

The main features and rules of the Tesco Brand Guarantee are:

  • Buy a minimum of 10 items in store.
  • Include at least 1 branded item that is available elsewhere
  • Compares against Asda, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons in the UK.
  • Works by instantly giving you money off at the till.

Perks to look out for: Often new multibuy offers appear in store but not on the price comparing system. This can mean that you can sometime get not only the new multibuy offer, but also the old price comparison stacking to give you huge discounts. New multibuy offers on wine works well for this, such as the regular offer from Tesco of “25% of 6 bottles” etc. I post these deals as I find them on my Facebook page and you can also find them on deal hunting sites like HUKD Hot Uk Deals and MSE Money Saving Expert

Asda Price Guarantee versus Tesco Brand Guarantee – The Asda Groceries APG option and how it works:

Asda’s APG Price Guarantee system is my personal favourite; you can read my earlier tips on using the Asda Price Guarantee to get huge discounts on your shopping here. This is mainly because of the 10% cheaper price promise they have. It means that you can not only match prices elsewhere, but actually beat them by 10%. Also, the Asda Price Guarantee only requires 8 items in your basket.

The main features and rules of the Asda Price Guarantee are:

  • Buy a minimum of 8 items in store.
  • Include at least 1 branded item that is available elsewhere
  • Compares against Asda, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and Morrisons (instore) in the UK.
  • Works by giving you a code on your receipt at the till. You enter this code on the asda price guarantee website to see your results and print your voucher.
  • Gives you an additional 10% off over comparing competitors.

Perks to look out for: In a similar way to Tesco offers, occasionally glitches appear in the APG system, meaning you can benefit for bigger than expected discounts. By using the APG vouchers to repeat good offers you can effectively “rinse and repeat” a great value offer. This is known as APG glitching. Visit asda groceries website and have a look at the sorts of multibuys they have that may at any point glitch

A quick note about Waitrose :– Whilst they steer clear of comparison offers, they do offer a Pick You Own Offers system which can net you some brilliant prices on laundry items and fresh meats. Check out How to stack vouchers and offers at Waitrose.
